Dîalekt

Maryam Obeyd

Her çûyîn bi hesreta mayinê

Her mayîn bi hêviya çûyine.

Hesret û hêvî di bin konekî de

Li ser cilikekê rûdinin her tim.

Yên mayî bila nebêjin qey çûyîn hêsan e

Yên çûyîn bila nebêjin qey mayîn nezan e.

Each leaving longs for staying.

Each staying hopes for leaving.

Longing and Hope sit on a rug

under a tent—always.

May those who have stayed not say the leaving is easy.

May those who have left not say the staying is simple.

"What else can you do, when your stage is ember
and your audience is rifle?
You had to do this —
to write poetry with the tip of flame
and set fire to your fear and silence."
